The Department of Human Sciences at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) invites applications from qualified candidates for a 9-month appointment as an Assistant Professor of Practice in Interior Design beginning Spring 2027. The primary responsibilities of this position include teaching undergraduate courses in the Interior Design BA/BS program. Courses will include teaching AutoCAD, Revit, Enscape, and SketchUp software, foundation courses in applied design theory, and other studio and lecture courses as needed for the program. The appointment includes a 4/4 teaching load in the fall and spring semesters.

Requirements
The ideal candidate would possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in interior design or a related field. Substantial and notable professional interior design practice experience, professional credentials, and state/national licensure as a design professional may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
Required: A minimum of five years of full-time experience in professional practice work or a combination of professional practice and university-level teaching experience is required. The demonstrated experience should be in interior design, architecture, or a related discipline. Proficiency and ability to teach across a variety of design technologies as noted in the position details is required and should be demonstrated in the candidate’s professional portfolio sample.
Preferred: Experience in workplace and/or healthcare design is preferred. Membership in at least one of the following professional organizations: IDEC, IIDA, ASID, or AIA is preferred. Additional credentials/certifications in any one or more of the following: NCIDQ, LEED-AP, AAHID, WELL-AP, or EDAC are preferred.
